26 February 2020, Cairo-Egypt: Although the Arab region is located in the global Sun Belt making it one of the richest regions in solar energy, the solar water heating potential remains untapped in most Arab states. To address this challenge, RCREEE initiated the first Arab certification scheme for solar thermal products and services in the Arab region, SHAMCI with the support of the Arabian Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO) based on the Arab Ministerial Council of Electricity (AMEC) of the League of Arab States request.
To support the adoption of SHAMCI program in Jordan, RCREEE welcomed a delegation from Jordanian Standards and Metrology Organization on a 2-day mission to Cairo, Egypt.
During the visit the delegation learnt about SHAMCI implementation processes at the national level and conducted a number of visits EOS (Egyptian organization of Standards) & NREA ST-TL (New and Renewable Energy Authority – Solar thermal testing laboratory). On the last day, SHAMCI team and the delegation discussed in details SHAMCI implementation action plan in Jordan.
Late in 2018, RCREEE signed a cooperation agreement with Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) to coordinate efforts for launching the Solar Heating Arab Mark and Certification Initiative (SHAMCI) in Jordan.
